The first time someone stopped me in public to ask where my son’s shirt was from, I knew I was onto something. That little moment sparked what became Barely Tamed — a kids’ brand built for the wild, the stylish, and the ones who don’t sit still.

What most people don’t know is that when I started Barely Tamed, we were in the thick of trying to understand what was going on with my son. We were bouncing between appointments, chasing answers, and living in that confusing, emotional fog of early motherhood. I was losing pieces of myself in the process — and creating Barely Tamed became the one thing that helped me feel grounded again. It was my outlet, my creative escape, and the place I found myself while trying to be everything for him.

He was just six months old when this all began. I wanted him to share my husband’s surf-and-skater vibe, but everything in the “Big Box Stores” felt too cutesy, too mass-produced, or just not “us.” A few small shops were popping up with fun boys’ clothes, and I thought, shoot, I could jump in this game too — only my vision was different. More edge, more unisex, more personality.

As I dug deeper, I noticed the small-shop scene was filling up with boys’ options, but edgy girls’ clothes were basically nonexistent. So Barely Tamed became unisex from the start — bold styles for tomboy girls, fierce little sisters, and all the kids who didn’t fit the frilly mold. We carved out our own lane because we knew girls could rock our tees, siblings could match without being matchy-matchy, and parents could finally find clothes that looked cool and actually felt made for real kids.

I’m a tattooed hairstylist by day, so I poured my own edgy-meets-beachy vibe into every design. And now? Our small-batch drops sell out fast, kids make them their favorite go-to pieces, and moms get stopped in public with the same question I still smile about:

“Where did you get that?”

There is not a cooler feeling than you choosing to wear Barely Tamed when there are so many other cool companies along side of us.
